ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Native New Yorker Lorraine Passero has always loved living minutes from the ocean—on the island of Manhattan, Long Island, or near the beaches of Laguna. Her appreciation for art can be traced to her childhood where she spent weekends inspired by paintings at art museums in New York City. After studying art at Long Island University and receiving her teaching credentials in 1972, she relocated to California.

The ocean had become a focal point of her artistic expression. Over the years,

Passero transitioned fluidly using a variety of mediums such as graphite, oils, and acrylics.

While traveling to Japan on a Fulbright scholarship she was introduced to gyotaku, Japanese fish printing. Inked images of sea life are transferred onto rice paper and artistically enhanced. In addition to her fish prints, her latest work includes detailed pencil drawings, acrylic paintings, and a collection of sea botanicals.

Traveling to tropical destinations with her husband Jon Seeman, a sculptor, they find their inspiration. Whether in Costa Rica, the Mediterranean Sea, or on the Tahitian islands, Passero brings her viewers a little closer to the ocean.
